Amateur photographer, designer and Graphic Communications student Galen Tran sets off on another one of his media projects in documenting life through a lens. This time, his eyes are set on the quaint, upscale beach town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA.
At the spritely age of 22, Tran is a student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo whose main stream of creativity is through video work. He has documented local poetry readings, 24-hour hack-a-thons, and campus organization workshops to name a few. One of his biggest projects has been his production of a 10-minute training video for new Dior employees around the world, and he is set to produce a video for incoming Graphic Design students at his university. At the moment, he is working on a 7-piece vlog series on his developing YouTube channel.
“There’s only a lucky few who get to live in a place like this. For everyone else, each visit is an adventure,” says Tran as he describes his reason for filming life along the Monterey Peninsula. His approach to this vlog is to capture the essence of Carmel’s shoreline through clips of the waves, sand and sky as each aspect continually evolves throughout the day. Color and motion are two principal motifs for his 5 to 7-minute vignette. Outside of the numerous dog-friendly hotels, pricey mom-and-pop restaurants and retail establishments, Carmel also has an ongoing naturalness of land and sea.
